l .a.Eyeworks co-founders and designers Gai Gherardi and Barbara McReynolds opened the doors of their first optical shop on September 9, 1979.  In celebration, l.a.Eyeworks is marking the event with donations of frames to those in need internationally.

l.a.Eyeworks staff worldwide, from Japan to Europe to the U.S., has been asked to choose a recipient for 25 frames.   The giving has been as diverse as the long-time staff of l.a.Eyeworks, many of whom have been with the company for nearly the duration.

The French Distribution office chose to give 50 frames to Adapei, a home for the mentally ill in France.  Christian of Germany will outfit the Düsseldorf volunteer fire brigade in a party this summer.  Philippe of France requested that sunglasses be sent to an impoverished village he visited in Senegal.  Delilah of the U.S. sales office donated 25 frames to the H.E.L.P. group, assisting children with Autism.

Ten frames were set aside as inspirational dress-up pieces for students, 15 for a silent auction fundraiser.  Curtis gave 25 frames to the PATH homeless agency in Los Angeles. Maureen will give to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  Angela worked together with the UCLA mobile eye clinic to provide frames and lenses for 25 clients of the Los Angeles Downtown Homeless Women’s Shelter.

Some donations have been more personal.  Joe, lead accountant, chose to outfit just one person, a close friend who had experienced many personal struggles. An eye exam, fitting and new frames and lenses were chosen; the results provided an uplifting change and spark for the woman’s life.  Tarlan is strongly moved by political situations and has chosen RAWA, a group of revolutionary women in the Middle East to receive the donation.

Every time a great face is wearing a pair of l.a.Eyeworks glasses, looking through our uncensored visions at their own, l.a.Eyeworks can only say WE SEE THROUGH YOU!
