World AIDS Day

On Thursday, December 1st, l.a.Eyeworks joins arts, community, and health organizations worldwide in its 27th annual observance of Day With(out) Art / World AIDS Day. Special initiatives are presented at both namesake retail stores in Los Angeles, including a Playlist Project in which friends from the arts, entertainment, fashion and services communities are invited to suggest a musical selection to be played in the stores throughout the day. The song selections can be seen here or enjoyed as a video compilation on YouTube.

This year's group of more than 60 contributors includes actress Kirsten Vangsness (CBS' Criminal Minds), Advanced Style founder Ari Seth Cohen, fashion designer Peter Jensen, E! entertainment editor Marc Malkin, artist Jim Isermann, and chanteuse Morganne, among many visual artists, educators and cultural leaders. Song selections are played randomly throughout the day, with classical works playing alongside disco standards, folk gems, and indie tracks, creating revealing contrasts and discoveries.

Additionally, visitors are also offered red ribbons as part of the Ribbon Project, conceived by the Visual AIDS Artists Caucus in 1991. On the sidewalk in front of each store, a "votive station" was created where visitors and passersby could light incense as an act of remembrance and an expression of hope.
